Project 1 - Analysing "Through the eyes" of an Architecture / Urban Designer / Theoretician

Part 1 & Part 2

This project is to select a defined area of our hometown and see it through our eyes of one architec, urban designer or theoretician that was discussed in the lecture series and asked to apply and translate the design theories and historic urban design approaches onto this area and imagine how the architect have analysed and interpreted in this chosen area.

This project required us to produces a graphical language or sketch design about our analysis to the site and choose an architect or urban designer accompanied by short reflective text of 500 words.

This project is about empahasizes architecture like language with vocabulary, grammatical structure, both physical and intellectual. through certain arrangement, it carries messages and communicates meanings, nevertheless, in order to understand architecture , one must be aware of the conditions within which they are employed.

This project required to decide a particular building area in the city from project 1 and decide the three external contributing factors of the site and also the analysis diagram of the site for example the plan, section and also elevation of the building or the area that have been chosen. the analysis is also must be relate back and relate to the theory that the architecture and also urban designer that already chosen in project 1.

Learning Outcomes :
1. Analyse architecture and urban forms in relation to relevant architectural theories
2. Analyse and critique the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural and intellectual context
3. Produce, orally and in writing, a critical interpretation of architecture and urbanism in relation to relevant theories within the contemporary discourse of architecture

Nature and Architecture

                 

Project 1

Research Poster - Inspired by nature

 This project required the student to analyse element of nature. This project is all about Bio-mimicry which give a chance to student to learn and explore about the characteristic or speciality of the nature that inspired the student to choose. Besides that, we also being ask to produce an A2 poster and also create awareness. the important part of this project is to design an environmentally sustainable product or design from the nature that the student inspired by. This A2 poster must content the case study about the nature and also the design idea together with the component of the design.  The most important thing is how the design look like must be shown on the board.


                          

In this project I really learnt a lot, for example the understanding and now i able to explain the unique form and the function of the element of nature, also understand more about the nature element , like how to derive it and what the meaning of mimicking a natural element. Besides that, i also learn about the way to produce a good communicative diagram and also how to produce a visual that can let examiner or viewer easier to understand. Lastly, this project is kind of interesting project go through, at first I thought this project will be complicated and during this project I felt so much fun when trying mimicking the natural element from the nature I inspired to.


Project 2

Nature Inspired Design

This project is a project that also related to the nature but in this assignment the students are given a some theme for them to choose. On the other hand, this project need to bring back architectural design studio 3 project which is the Nature appreciation center ( NAC ) for the student to apply the design of the nature that inspired the student. In this project again, the most important thing is student needs to produce or create a design which must related to architectural component or element which the student can apply it to the previous studio final project. All this nature and architecture project must be sustainability and related to the nature or the way of achieving sustainability and save energy. lastly, the student are required to produce a drawing, design or product and also 3 A2 board and also model together with the design on the model.

In this project, I learn about ecology also the thing that i learn in project 1. actually project 1 and project 2 are almost the same or have similarity. the only different between project 1 and 2 is, project 2 is more talking about to create or design an architectural component, or building construction material and project 1 is to create and design a general thing or stuff for daily use and etc. but in project two because the theme that i choose is ecology, so i learn about ecology and how the nature live in this world with depending each other. in this project I more understand how to explain the concept that I have derived from the selected and studied of the natural element that i used as my idea and design, and because of this project is bigger project if compare to project one the skill of creating a good communicative diagram and visual effective are useful for me to design the board.

Case Study Paper
In this project, after having our site visit at Belum Rainforest resort, We are required to choose a specific research area to investigate contemporary sustainable design practices and issues in asia. In this project we need to produce a research paper with a specific title and generate a good research topic following by creating a concept mapping and also a research paper content 3000-4000 words.

In this project, I analysed and discussed on the selected research area based on the assigned building within the framework of the sustainable design and also I identified the elements of sustainable design through analysis and also investigation on Belum Rainforest resort. Last, I also covered the issues that I've found out through my investigation.

  Project 2


Documentation Study 

In this project, we divided into 5 people in a group. this project is about the study of the streets in an Asian City to understand the historical and social aspects of a city by exploring the development of tradition, modernization and also globalization of the streets. Students are required to shoot 10 photos and compile it to become a photo book and each photos must include a short description and also an A2 size manual sketched street map, there is an option for us to choose either 2D or 3D with annotations of landmarks or significant elements that reflect the architecture iconography of the street is also required.

Our group choose Jl.Ahmad Yani ( which known as Kesawan Square ) Medan, Indonesia. this historical street is full of beautiful or memorable memory during colonial era. in this photo book, we describe the historical development of the main strands of Asian Architecture. we also identified the transition of the Asian Architectural history. On the other hand, we also interpret the architectural language in relation to the development of Asian Architecture and urbanism based on the tradition, modernity and globalization.
